The Project Development Objective (PDO) is to strengthen the capacity for Sales Tax on Services collection, and improve public investment management and accountability of public service delivery in the water sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The focus on the water sector (including water supply and sanitation and hydropower but excluding irrigation) is based on the Government’s priorities, its large share of the development budget, and opportunities for synergies with the Public Services pillar of the MDTF, which works in water supply and sanitation.
This MDTF was set up in 2010 – initially for a period of five years — to support the implementation of the recommendations of the Post-Conflict Needs Assessment (PCNA) for KP and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). The scope of the MDTF was subsequently expanded to also support the crisis-affected province of Balochistan. The GSP was one of the projects financed by this MDTF for the period 2010-2015. In September 2015, the MDTF Steering Committee extended the MDTF for another five years (2015-2010).
